Free Psychiatric Camp Benefits 50 Patients in Lala; Expert Highlights Rising Suicide Rates

A free medical camp dedicated to mental health awareness and treatment was successfully conducted at the Surya Sen Sanstha premises on Sunday, offering vital psychiatric services to the local community.

The initiative was a collaborative effort organized by First Care Health Care and Surya Sen Sanstha, with management support provided by ZDL Pharma. The camp drew significant participation, with 50 residents receiving free consultations, prescriptions, and medicines.

Leading the medical team was psychiatrist Dr. Srijita Nath Chowdhury, who raised concerns about the growing prevalence of mental health issues during her opening address. Dr. Chowdhury noted the rapid rise in psychiatric cases and emphasized the dangerous impact of societal stigma. She observed that fear of social judgment often prevents patients from disclosing their struggles, a silence that can have fatal consequences. Highlighting the severity of the crisis, she pointed out that globally, one person commits suicide every 40 seconds.

Several key community figures attended the event to support the cause, including Bishu Deb, President of First Care, along with Mithun Nath, Rajdeep Deb, and Biswa Nath. The organizers honored the medical team with traditional uttariyas (ceremonial scarves) as a gesture of gratitude.

Local residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that the accessible medical services were highly beneficial. Encouraged by the response, First Care President Bishu Deb publicly appealed to Dr. Chowdhury to expand these efforts and organize similar awareness camps in other locations in the near future.
