Land Dispute Turns Fatal: Man Stabs Younger Brother to Death in South Hailakandi’s Jamira Bazar

A long-standing property feud between siblings culminated in a shocking public murder on Saturday morning in South Hailakandi, leaving the local community in a state of panic and grief.

The incident occurred in broad daylight at the busy Jamira Bazar. According to reports, the confrontation took place around 9:00 AM in front of Siddique Ali’s shop. Onlookers were caught off guard as Islam Uddin Laskar suddenly attacked his younger brother, Elias Ali Laskar, with a knife before anyone could intervene.

Elias Ali, a 50-year-old tailor by profession, sustained a severe stab wound to the stomach and collapsed at the scene. Local residents rushed him to the Katlicherra Primary Health Centre in a desperate bid to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries. His body has since been transferred to Hailakandi Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

In the immediate aftermath of the crime, the accused, Islam Uddin Laskar, walked to the Jamira Police Station and surrendered himself, handing over the weapon used in the attack.

Sources indicate that the violence was triggered by an unresolved boundary dispute regarding the brothers’ shared home. Both the Jamira and Ramnathpur police have initiated a joint investigation to examine the specifics of the conflict.

The brutality of the event has cast a pall of gloom over the area. As a mark of respect for the deceased, the Jamira Bazar Business Committee kept all market establishments closed for two hours following the incident.
