MCC Enforcement Triggers Removal of Political Posters and Hoardings Across Lala

Hailakandi district administration directs civic body to clear campaign materials from roads, poles and government premises

With the Model Code of Conduct now in force across the state, the Lala Municipality has started removing election publicity materials put up by political parties and their supporters across the town.

Following instructions issued by the Hailakandi district administration, municipal workers began the drive on Monday morning. Posters, banners and hoardings displayed at road junctions, government offices and on electric poles were taken down and loaded onto trucks for removal.

Officials said the exercise is being carried out to ensure compliance with election rules after the Election Commission brought the Model Code of Conduct into effect for the upcoming polls. The code is intended to ensure that elections are held in a free, fair and neutral manner, and the Commission has warned that violations will invite strict legal action.

The directions also cover publicity materials related to state government development works displayed at public institutions. In line with those instructions, such festoons and banners are also being covered or removed from government buildings, after the district administration circulated the order to all government offices.

The action follows the Election Commission’s announcement on Sunday of the poll schedule for five states.
