Storm Knocks Out Power in Lala, Katlicherra and Manipur for Hours

Strong winds and rain damage electric lines; APDCL teams rush to restore supply

Electricity supply across several parts of Lala, Katlicherra and Manipur was disrupted on Thursday afternoon after a brief but intense storm battered the region. The squall, accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds, lasted for nearly half an hour and caused widespread damage to power infrastructure.

According to reports, multiple electricity lines were affected as trees and large branches collapsed onto overhead wires at different locations. The resulting damage triggered power outages in several localities, leaving residents without electricity soon after the storm struck.

The situation was particularly severe in areas falling under the Katlicherra sub-division, where many households experienced sudden and prolonged power cuts. Residents faced considerable inconvenience as the electricity supply remained disrupted in several neighbourhoods.

Officials from the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) said repair crews were immediately dispatched after receiving information about the damage. Workers began clearing fallen trees and branches from power lines and started repairing the damaged network.

However, due to the extent of the damage caused by the storm, electricity could not be restored immediately in some affected areas. The department initiated urgent repair work to resume power supply as quickly as possible.

Reports also indicated that a transformer at the Manipur sub-station was impacted during the storm, temporarily affecting electricity supply in surrounding areas.

APDCL officials stated that restoration work was being carried out in a coordinated manner to bring the system back to normal and prevent any potential accidents. Technical teams continued to work on-site to stabilise the situation and ensure safe restoration of electricity.

Despite the damage to power infrastructure, no major accidents or injuries were reported. Authorities said efforts were ongoing to restore electricity services in all affected areas at the earliest.
