35-year-old Alim Uddin Laskar from Lalpani Forest Village declared dead at Lala Block PHC despite frantic rescue efforts.
A sudden afternoon storm claimed the life of 35-year-old e-rickshaw driver Alim Uddin Laskar on Friday when powerful winds overturned his vehicle, sending both driver and rickshaw tumbling into the Dhaleshwari River alongside the road.
Laskar, a resident of Lalpani Forest Village under Lala Police Station jurisdiction, had come to Lala town that morning for work. Around midday, while en route to visit relatives in nearby Dhanipur village, the fierce weather caught him unawares. Despite the deteriorating conditions, he continued driving until the storm’s gusts flipped his e-rickshaw off the road and into the swollen waters below.
Local residents who witnessed the accident sprang into immediate action. They pulled the bloodied driver from the river and rushed him to Lala Block Primary Health Centre, but the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.
Lala Police Station OC Devananda Das and Sub-Inspector Jewel Das responded swiftly to the scene. They recovered the submerged e-rickshaw and transported it to the station for investigation. Laskar’s body was subsequently sent to Hailakandi’s SK Roy Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The young breadwinner leaves behind his wife and son. Grief has enveloped Lalpani Forest Village and his wider circle of acquaintances, with the family consumed by mourning over the tragic loss of their sole provider.
