Person Arrested for Posting Fake Video on Social Media

Police have arrested a youth on charges of spreading communal tension. The arrested youth is identified as Abdul Khalik Barbhuiya (34). He is a resident of Jamira Part VII village under Ramnathpur police station and the son of Jahir Uddin Barbhuiya.

According to police sources, the arrested youth recently circulated misleading and baseless videos on social media regarding a government eviction drive in the Damchara area. It is alleged that through these videos, he attempted to disrupt public peace and incite hostility and hatred between two communities.

Swift action was taken as soon as the matter came to the notice of the district police. A case has been registered at Ramnathpur police station in this regard (Case No. 07/2026). Police have filed multiple charges against the accused under sections 353(1)(b), 353(2), 132, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections are primarily applied for offenses related to spreading rumors via digital means, creating public panic, and disrupting communal harmony.

Notably, the Hailakandi district administration had previously warned citizens to be cautious before sharing any unverified or provocative information on social media. Strict legal action will continue against those posting such misleading content that disrupts public order. The arrested Abdul Khalik Barbhuiya was produced in court today, and police have initiated an investigation to determine if anyone else instigated him to commit this act.
