An attempt to insult Netaji’s statue in Lala.

Youths allegedly disrupted a garlanding ceremony at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue in Lala town on International Mother Language Day, prompting a police case and local outrage. The morning event near the Lala Block office turned tense when some area youths reportedly tried to halt the ritual and misbehaved with BJP Mandal President Abhijit Chatterjee, who was present. Quick action by bystanders diffused the immediate conflict, though unease lingered across the neighborhood.

BJP Mandal President Abhijit Chatterjee, along with Himadri Roy, Hosen Majumdar, youth leader Munshi Majumdar, mandal general secretary Deepak Nath Mazumder and others, promptly approached Lala Police Station with a formal complaint. Officer-in-Charge Rishi Bania registered the case and launched an investigation into the alleged attempt to dishonor the statue.

Prominent figures including City BJP President Golam Kausar and social worker Kanchan Bauri slammed the episode as an unacceptable affront to Netaji’s legacy. They called for swift identification and punishment of the culprits, threatening widespread protests in Lala if authorities fail to act decisively.

While BJP voices decried the disruption, some residents offered a contrasting view: two rival groups arrived simultaneously for the tribute, sparking a minor verbal spat from a simple mix-up. They stressed no deliberate disrespect toward Netaji’s statue was intended. Lala town has since stabilized, with the community awaiting police findings to clarify the facts.
