Lions Club of Lala Marks Women’s Day Eve with Grand Felicitation and Health Camp

Free diagnostic tests, expert medical consultations, and cultural performances by Anganwadi workers highlight the day-long celebration at Gautam Roy Fan Club.

Anticipating International Women’s Day on March 8, the Lions Club of Lala organized a comprehensive community event on Saturday to honor female empowerment, dignity, and local contributions. Held at the Gautam Roy Fan Club premises, the gathering successfully combined civic felicitations, public health initiatives, and cultural expression into a meaningful day of celebration.

A primary focus of the event was a dedicated health awareness and check-up camp, executed in partnership with Lala’s Meditrust Diagnostic Centre. Approximately fifty women received free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and pre-diabetes. Eminent physician Dr. Gouridas Singha was on hand to provide essential medical consultations. Additionally, Dr. Sumana Das, Deputy Superintendent of Hailakandi’s SK Roy Civil Hospital and a specialized eye physician, led a vision-care clinic that examined attendees and issued necessary prescriptions.

The program officially opened by recognizing distinguished female leaders for their service to the community. The Lions Club felicitated municipal leader Tursi Roy, Lala’s Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Parbin Sultana Choudhury, Hailakandi District BJP General Secretary Arati Acharya, Dr. Sumana Das, alongside Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) supervisors Krishna Dasgupta and Mukta Nath.

Presided over by Lions Club of Lala President Nurul Majumder, the event featured robust discussions on the necessity of women’s education and their foundational role in both family and society. Speakers unanimously stressed that building a progressive, healthy society is impossible without genuine female empowerment.

Adding vibrancy to the proceedings, nearly fifty Anganwadi workers from the Social Welfare Department staged captivating cultural performances that vividly depicted the struggles, dreams, and successes of women.

Prominent figures attending the event included Lala Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School Principal Rathindra Nath. The successful execution of the day’s agenda was driven by dedicated Lions Club members, including retired headmaster Swapan Kumar Roy, Himangshu Roy, Samujjwal Nath Majumder, Deep Das, and Sofia Singha. The celebration concluded on a patriotic note with the singing of the national anthem.
