Organized under the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ initiative, the event is part of a massive nationwide push across 250 districts to boost female participation in athletics.
To mark International Women’s Day, a major district-level sports competition exclusively for women and adolescent girls is set to take place in Hailakandi this Sunday, March 8. The highly anticipated sporting event will kick off at 9:00 AM at the Manipur Mini Stadium in South Hailakandi.
Designed to be fully accessible to women from all corners of the district, the organizers have waived all entry fees. Participants will be divided into three age-specific categories: under 13 years, 13 to 18 years, and above 18 years.
The core athletic schedule features standard track events, including 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter sprint races. In addition to the competitive track events, a variety of recreational sports activities have been integrated into the day’s itinerary to ensure maximum engagement and provide an enjoyable experience for attendees of all skill levels.
The local initiative is being spearheaded by Hailakandi’s ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ center, operating under the broader framework of the Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The Hailakandi event represents just one node in a vast national campaign, with similar sporting programs being rolled out simultaneously in approximately 250 districts across the country today. Through these events, the central ministry aims to actively encourage female citizens to embrace regular sports practice, build their athletic skills, and confidently advance in the field of physical fitness.
