Founding teacher of Harijan LP School remembered for his decades of academic service and active community involvement.
Sudhanya Purkayastha, a revered former school teacher and prominent resident of Lala’s NS Road, breathed his last late Wednesday night. He was 88 years old.
A pioneer in local elementary education, Purkayastha began his teaching career in 1978. He took charge as the founding educator of Harijan LP School No. 882, an institution operating under the Lala Education Block. He dedicated his entire professional life to the school, remaining there until his eventual retirement. Even after stepping down from his academic duties, he stayed deeply committed to his community, engaging continuously in various civic and social activities.
He leaves behind his wife, a daughter, and two sons, one of whom is the recognized local artist Bappa Purkayastha. He is also mourned by an extended network of relatives and well-wishers.
News of his demise has brought widespread sorrow to multiple circles across the town. Numerous local figures and former colleagues, including Jaykishan Surana of the Lala Education Block, have publicly expressed their profound grief over the loss and extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
