Water Supply Project in Khalerpar Remains Idle Amid Power Crisis, Villagers Struggle as Ramadan Nears

Electricity issues halt operations for months; residents depend on unsafe water sources

The drinking water supply project in Khalerpar village under Nij Barorpur Union has been non-functional for several months due to ongoing electricity problems, plunging residents into an acute water shortage. As Ramadan approaches, the crisis has intensified, leaving villagers anxious about managing their daily water needs.

Locals report that the supply project came to a halt after complications arose over unpaid electricity bills. The system previously operated through an electric motor, but irregular power supply and mounting costs eventually brought the service to a standstill. “We used to get clean water from the pump regularly, but now we have nothing,” said one villager, expressing frustration over the prolonged shutdown.

According to residents, the high cost of electricity has made it impossible for many families to sustain the project. With no effective management or intervention, the facility has remained out of operation for an extended period.

At present, the project building stands abandoned, its supply lines disconnected and equipment deteriorating from lack of use. Villagers say that during Ramadan, demand for water sharply increases, but they are now forced to fetch water from distant and often unsafe sources.

Community members have urged the local administration to address the electricity issue immediately and restore the project’s operation to ease their growing hardship. “We are suffering every day,” another resident said. “The authorities must act before the situation worsens during Ramadan.
